The creators of THE LION KING and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST take you under the sea into an amazing world of excitement and exploration. Discover ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE and ATLANTIS: MILO'S RETURN -- together for the first time on Blu-ray, complete with digitally restored high definition picture and sound. Set your course for adventure as Milo Thatch and his fearless crew dive into the mysteries of the sea. The group's underwater expedition brings them face-to-face with gigantic sea monsters, spectacular spirits and the mythical land of Atlantis while they discover the power of friendship and teamwork. Loaded with thrills and stunning visual effects, this sensational 2-Movie Collection invites you on an unforgettable voyage you'll want to experience over and over again!|This is Disney's first 70 mm film since 1985's THE BLACK CAULDRON.|According to the writings of Philosopher Plato dating back to 360 B.C., "...in a single day and night of misfortune, the island of Atlantis disappeared into the depths of the sea."|The filmmakers turned to real-life linguistics expert Marc Okrand to create an original readable, speakable language for the film. Using a 29-letter alphabet, Okrand made up hundreds of Atlantean words for the actors to speak.|To prepare for the production, the filmmakers visited museums to study World War I-era clothing and machinery and toured old army installations to look at submarines and tanks. They also traveled 800 feet underground in New Mexico's Carlsbad Caverns to observe the subterranean trails that would serve as the model for the approach to Atlantis in the film.|When creating the look of Atlantis, the filmmakers wanted to avoid the common conception of "Greek columns under the sea somewhere," says art director Dave Goetz. Instead, they modeled their Atlantis on the architecture of ancient civilizations in China, South America, and the Middle East.
